Nicole Sullivan was born to an antiques dealer Madonna and New York State assemblyman, Edward C. Sullivan who represented Manhattan's 69th Assembly District in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 2002. She is of Swedish, Norwegian, Irish and German descent.
Nicole Sullivan had her education at Middleburgh High School from where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1987. She took dancing lessons from the age of seven while pursuing her studies. She excelled in studies which earned her an opportunity to skip a grade while in middle school. Sullivan played soccer in high school, recorded statistics for the boys' basketball team, and further became a member of the school council. Nicole Sullivan then went to Northwestern University where she studied Anton Chekov, Henrik Ibsen, William Shakespeare, Harold Pinter and Greek tragedies. While at Northwestern University, Nicole Sullivan took to writing plays and sketches for the student theater to see herself through the University education. She later graduated with honors in theater major. Nicole went to London to study at British American Drama Academy and became a member of the Greenwich Shakespeare Company.
